However, the expression of these genes can be significantly influenced by diet, environmental factors, and behavior.

This behavior can surprisingly help them feel more relaxed and focused. Stimulants, in this case, actually help calm these individuals down.


Individuals with ADHD often find it challenging to multitask. They might be perceived as less intelligent due to their difficulties with task juggling. Their primary coping mechanism is an ability known as "directed attention." This means they can intensely focus on one thing at a time.


For example, they might excel at marathon video gaming, but struggle to complete homework. ADHD can follow individuals from childhood into adulthood, often creating dramatic situations at various life stages. When they are passionate about something, they delve into it like superheroes. But when the task does not resonate with them, completing it can feel like an uphill battle.

We can categorize our lives into four essential aspects, with all activities fitting into one of these categories:

These substances can stimulate the prefrontal cortex and kick off the catecholamine response. Even sugary foods, like sweetened sodas, can impact this area of the brain.


Have you ever seen someone consume a double espresso after dinner and thought, "That’s going to keep them up all night"? While this may be true for most people, for those with ADHD, caffeine can sometimes have a calming effect. They might consume endless cups of coffee or down energy drinks, akin to caffeine enthusiasts seeking relaxation.


Interestingly, individuals with ADHD also frequently have higher incidences of tobacco and alcohol use, along with experimentation with opioids.

When intelligent strategies align with their focus, individuals with ADHD can truly shine. This phenomenon is observable among skilled business professionals, talented artists and entertainers, and effective politicians. They thrive on clear directives and structure that resemble the ordered settings found in religions, cults, and military organizations. Bipolar disorder is notably common among individuals with ADHD, affecting between 40% and 90% of these individuals. While boosting certain brain chemicals can alleviate ADHD symptoms, an excess of these chemicals in other brain regions can intensify bipolar symptoms.
